This rare 2.5 version of the MkV was exported to the States in 1956 and brought back to Britain to be completely restored in the early 1990s. It was reckoned to be one of the finest around in the mid 90s and stood next to the Queen Mother’s MkVII for the 60th Jaguar Anniversary celebrations at Coventry. The present owners have owned it since 1999 and has used it extensively as part of their wedding car business, which has served celebrities such as Jessica Ennis-Hill, GB Heptathlete, Pop Star Shaznay Lewis of The All Saints Girl Band, and a member of the EastEnders cast.
The car has been meticulously maintained and runs beautifully, having just been serviced and MOT’d. It continually receives favourable comments and impresses wherever it travels.
The present owners are streamlining their fleet but would be open to providing business for the car, if purchased locally in and around Shrewsbury, since they are still running their wedding car website.

A rare early-build 240Z imported from dry Arizona in August 2012. Historic vehicle – no MOT required and free road tax. Mileage showing: 23, 300 but I have no idea if this is correct.
This car spent its life in Arizona before long-term dry storage, emerging basically rust-free. It was imported by SJ Classics and later underwent a proper restoration by previous owner Mr Garland, with over £10, 000 spent on mechanical work, including coil-over shocks all at Fourways Engineering. Full invoices are available.
Recent work & recommissioning: Recommissioned by Alan Mann Racing in 2022 (£1, 083) – new clutch master cylinder and made road-ready.
Seats professionally retrimmed in black leather hide with new foams, bases and carpets £1, 700.
Genuine UK Wolfrace wheels fitted (correct period option in the UK) £600.
Last year, braking system upgraded with new disks & master cylinder, 280Z servo/ booster, new rear tyres.
Full new clutch kit, gearbox oil, then a weeks testing and running by the garage until they were happy to return it! £1900
The L24 engine runs strongly and pulls really well. It’s currently set a little rich, so the choke isn’t needed once warm, but a quick carburettor linkage adjustment will have it spot-on. Brakes and handling are now excellent after the recent work.
Body & underside: Solid and rust-free thanks to its dry-climate history. Paint has a few minor imperfections here and there. A previous non-original carbon ducktail spoiler was removed (it didn’t suit the early car) leaving two small filled holes in the hatch – these are temporarily grommeted and painted over. New correct Datsun 240Z hatch emblems are included for the buyer. The underside is sound; it had an underbody coating applied at some point, but inspection shows good solid metal throughout. I have a pack of Lanoguard if the new owner wants to apply it.
Interior: New headlining and leather dash cover from the earlier restoration. Recent high-quality black leather retrim and foams on the seats. Centre map light is missing and there’s a blank switch in the console. Otherwise very presentable and usable.
I’m 6’4″ so fitted a smaller steering wheel for comfort – the original 240Z wheel is included in good condition, along with various other spares.
LED headlights are fitted and work brilliantly (easily swapped back to standard if preferred).
The odometer shows very low mileage, though without full supporting history it’s unverified. The engine feels tight and strong, so it may well be correct.
This is a proper early 240Z with excellent provenance and recent investment in the important areas (brakes, interior, wheels and recommissioning). It’s a usable, enjoyable car now and makes a great base for further improvement or just to drive and enjoy.
Full history file, invoices and 120+ photos from previous sales available. Viewing welcome by appointment.
